Welcome to Away At Last
We are pleased to present Away at Last in beautiful Surfside Beach, South Carolina. Just minutes away from Away At Last you can enjoy all the sights, sounds, and events that Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand are famous for, including Broadway at the Beach, the Dixie Stampede, Wonderworks, beautiful Brookgreen Gardens, two South Carolina State Parks (both located on the oceanfront), over 100 premier golf course and of course Murrels inlet, the Seafood Capital of South Carolina.
This Way To The Beach
If you're walking to the beach, we recommend you take a left out of the house, take a left at the corner and walk over the little bridge next to the baseball field. From there it is a quick walk to beautiful Surfside Beach.
If you're driving to the beach, you can always park at the Surfside pier $ parking lot $. But if you can, just park right on Ocean Drive and then just walk through the 'beach access' thruway to the beach. If you want to stake out your spot on the beach, we recommend having someone stay with your umbrella and chairs. Folks are not supposed to drop off their stuff and just leave, and sometimes the Beach Patrol get a little over zealous enforcing this rule.
Internet Access
Away At Last has internet and cable service provided by HTC. This is high speed internet advertised in the 400mbps range. To access either the 5G or 2.4G wi-fi connection, just point your phone or laptop to AwayAtLast and provide the password. The password should be on the device upstairs.
Eats at the Beach
Benjamin Bagels has great, er, bagles. They also put together a really nice breakfast. I highly recommend them. They're located at 531 US Hwy 17 South. Their store is directly north of Away At Last on Hwy 17. Service is typically friendly. If you're eating in, you might want to bring enough change to buy a newspaper from one of their many vending machines, and enjoy it over a nice cup of coffee.
For Dinner or a late lunch at the beach, we can also recommend Bubba's Fish Shack at 16 S Ocean Blvd. 80% of people who eat there rate it good to excellent. We agree.
Golf
There are a ton of golf courses to play here. The Caledonia Golf & Fish Club is very nice golf course, but some think it's overpriced. We really like the University's Hackler course. No matter what course you choose, get out there and play at least one round. It will 'round out' your stay.
Town of Surfside Beach
Surfside will often have an organized event and they're definitely worth checking out. Just check their official web page for more information.
Helicopter
How about a nice helicopter ride over the area. Why settle for a view of Myrtle Beach from your car window when you can soar in style in a helicopter?! Advertised price is $20. Not sure if that includes a return trip. ;-)
Remote Controls
Please make sure all remote controls are present and accounted for at the end of your stay. If you have small children, please ensure they do not misplace these. Many of today's televisions will not operate properly without a remote control. Dunes cleaning service as advised all home owners that they will be doing an inventory of these when they clean. Dunes has advised that if they need to be replaced, the guest will be responsible for underwriting the expense.
Parking
You may have to shuffle some cars around depending on the number of guests, but please do not park on the grass. We have an irrigation system installed and automobiles parked on top will destroy it. Thank you.
Hey, Cool Golf Cart
The golf cart can not be loaned out to guests. This was mandated to us by our lovely Insurance company. However, you can rent golf carts in Surfside. Drivers must be 16 and have a license to operate a vehicle. We think this is one of the best beach investments you can make.
Clean Duds
"Question: How much fun is washing your clothes?
Answer: Loads." The washing machine was purchased new in 2017. It is a Samsung and it doesn't use an agitator because it's "modern". It takes only a little bit of washing detergent to get the job done. We aren't crazy about this modern washing machine. It seems to take forever to do a load of clothes. We've had repairmen come over to look at it and they say it's normal, just slow. They, and we, recommend using "quick wash" only. It still takes about 40 minutes to get through a load. Please Do Not call Dunes and ask them about the Washing Machine. There is nothing wrong with it other than it's a Samsung and apparently they make slow washing machines.
Pool Lights
Having the pool lights on at night is fun. You can turn them on by opening the little box on the side of the house. It's the box closest to the street. Please remember to turn them off. We try to keep rental costs reasonable. High electricity bills from the AC constantly running on high, and pool lights left on in the day time, really costs a lot of money. Please help us keep our costs down and treat the house as you would your own.
The Pool Management company Ph.D Pools, 843.457-5515 or 843-241-6045 (mobile). If you think it needs additional care, please let them know.
Owner's Closets
We have owner's closets to keep our things out of your way while you're our guest. All owner rented beach houses have owner's closets.
